Frequently asked questions
How many portable toilets do I need for my job?
The answer depends on how many workers show up and how long they stay. OSHA 1926.51(c) requires 1 toilet facility for 20 workers or fewer; 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers from 20 up; and 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers at 200 or more. Construction sites in Renton follow this rule. An event restroom rental for a festival or concert uses a different math: crowd size and event length. Call us with your headcount and shift length and we'll tell you the exact number. Check our sizing guide for more detail.
What does a standard portable toilet look like and how much space does it need?
A standard unit is about 44 by 48 inches on the ground and stands about 92 inches tall. That's smaller than a parking space and taller than most doors. Each unit holds 60 to 70 gallons. We deliver them on flat, level ground in Renton or anywhere we service. ADA Standards section 304.3.1 requires a 60 inch diameter turning circle for accessible units, so placement matters if you're running an accessible restroom. A standard porta potty rental costs less than a deluxe flushable porta potty, which has a flushing toilet and hand soap dispenser.
What about septic pumping and how often should I pump?
A residential septic tank is typically pumped every 3 to 5 years, driven by tank size and household size. Our septic pumping service handles routine maintenance and emergency calls in Renton and the surrounding area. A grease interceptor is pumped when fats, oils, grease and solids reach 25 percent of the liquid depth. Grease trap pumping protects your system from blockages. If you see slow drains or smell sewage, call right away. Emergency service costs more than scheduled work.
What happens if I need restroom facilities on a construction site with no water or power?
Construction sites need potable water under OSHA 1926.51(a)(1). A handwashing station rental provides soap and towels under 29 CFR 1910.141(d)(2). If your Renton site has no water line, we deliver portable sinks and stock them with soap and paper towels. A restroom trailer rental includes plumbing, heating, air and lighting if you've got power. We can also run a temporary power pole for trailers on sites without electrical service. Trailers come in 2, 4 or 8 stall models.
Does a hand sanitizer station count as handwashing?
No. 29 CFR 1910.141(d)(2) requires soap and towels or a hand drying device. A hand sanitizer station rental helps but does not replace a portable sink rental or a restroom trailer.
